Central Park is a San Mateo landmark located off of El Camino Real between 5th and 9th Avenues. The park features a beautiful Japanese Tea Garden that was designed by landscape architect, Nagao Sakurai of the Imperial Palace of Tokyo. The garden includes a granite pagoda, tea house, koi pond, and bamboo grove, and is a popular destination in the late Winter and early Spring when the cherry blossoms bloom. There is also a small train on rails for children to ride on throughout the park. Also located at the park is the Central Park Recreation Center which offers daily aerobic classes and a meeting place for locals and visitors.
Downtown San Mateo is a vibrant place to live, work, and play. There is an abundance of parking – nearly 3,000 public parking spaces located in garages, on the street, and at surface lots throughout Downtown.
